Yellowcard comes screaming back into the rock world with their newest release “Paper Walls.” This is a follow-up to “Lights and Sounds” and “Ocean Avenue.” The newest addition to Yellowcard’s resume includes catchy hooks, fast drums and violin play and energy that oozes from your CD player. The album starts off with a bang with the first three songs, “The Takedown, Fighting, and Shrink the World.” All three offer a heavy dose of upbeat, fast instruments and a fresh taste of something needed. The big three, as I call them, gets listeners into the album where no matter what comes after you can walk away. Next in the powerhouse arena comes the first single “Light Up the Sky.” This shows that super catchiness that Yellowcard is widely known for, but it does tend to get annoying with “I would die for you” being said a million or so times. Then comes a sensational fast pace “Five Becomes Four.” This song shows off that super fast violin playing by Sean and the creativity of LP on his drum kit. Finally, comes the title track “Paper Walls.” It does have a strange beginning, but then offers a music blast that I took in like a cold slushy on a hot summer day.

All and all this is an excellent, solid album. It links back to their old albums, but places some spanking new sounds in too. This will surely bring in new fans, while living up to the old fans expectations and the off chance that it will bring some fans back. I would recommend buying this album and if you have the extra cash to get the deluxe edition I’d go and get that one. The DVD is amazing, with explanations about the title, songs, extra songs, photo gallery and a making of the video piece. It simply outstanding!
