The Canadian rock band from Edmonton, Alberta, which has opened for such bands as Default, Theory of a Deadman, Metric, Billy Talent, Thornley, Three Days Grace, Hinder, Everclear, Hedley, and Bon Jovi puts forth a third EP on their way to becoming as big as those above mentioned bands. After placing Tupelo Honey (2005) and September Sessions (2007), they come back the very next year with Machines & Robots. The five track album begins with “Morphine.” Its focus is on Matthews’s vocals until an explosion of sound 30 so seconds into it. The vocals sound a bit like Alter Bridge in spots. The range of the vocals are incredible and the music sets everything in aliment. “All These Things” is a perfect follow-up track. It features great guitar solos, riffs and steady pounding of drums. The vocals are also good with the addition of backing vocals as well. Everything flows very well and should take the band in the right direction. “Not Alone” shows another side of the band. It’s a soft simple, vocal driven track with music that sets the pace of the song. The lyrics are something to pay attention to as they are very detailed. “We Are” speeds the album up once again. The driving drums go perfectly with the guitars and the vocals. The track flows pretty well. The vocals don’t jump around and isn’t monotone either. The title track “Machines and Robots” feature backing vocals that are perfectly placed. It has great music behind the vocals that again flow flawlessly. They add a pre-recorded man throughout the track that the first time surprises you then you look for it. Overall this is a great EP that should bring on more tours with other big named artists. It also shows how talented the band is in both writing and playing. For the sound of this album there is defiantly something great coming of this band. Go check out some of the tracks over at their myspace page.
