The always evolving band Thrice does it once again. They always seem to
experiment with the right chemicals and come out unharmed. The first two volumes of the Alchemy Index prove that very point.
They start right out of the gates on volume 1 “Fire.” “Firebreather” has a unique beginning followed
up with a great musical ending. My favorite track of the first CD “The Arsonist” actually doesn’t fit in
my “normal taste of tunes. It features a nice beginning and great riffs, both in which allows me to get past the tiny
bit of screaming in the song. The last track of disc 2, “The Flame Deluge,” is an interesting track that I’m
drawn too. I couldn’t help but play this song over and over. Now switching over to “Water,” this album shows
a little different side, but with the same unpredictable Thrice work. This is more of a soothing sound compared to the sound
of “Fire,” which was hard and heavy. “Night Diving,” which is a musical song, is a truly soothing
song. “The Whaler,” goes along the same trend.
Overall, this 2 disc album, although is very different, is solid. Most fans will like both discs, but new listeners
may side with on disc over the other. Keep and open mind though and you might just like both disc.
