When you think of Tennessee, what do you think of: Elvis, southern classic rock. Well in the past few years more and more hard rock and metal has been coming from there. After a few line up changes and EP’s Straight Line Stitch (SLS) finally hits its stride when Alexia Brown joined the band in 2003. They then released their second full length album in 2006 and now strike back with another album this coming August, When Skies Wash Ashore via Koch Recordings. The album begins with “Never See The Day.” The track is infused with raging guitars pounding drums with a combination of screaming vocals and nice ear tingling ones. It is a great way to begin the album as it gets your blood flowing and the mosh pit dancing. The next track “Promise Me” has the same mixture of vocals as they try and special place the screams. The music is amazing with the drums leading the way. They are super fast and will make your head spin. Alexis when she slows down and sings from her toes and a sweet innocent voice she has one of the best female rockers voices. “Taste of Ashes” begins with a bash of drums and screams from multiple members of the band. That lasts for most of the track with spots of the sweet innocent sound of Alexis’ voice. “Eucharist” displays the guitars in the band in the beginning, but quickly gives way to vocal machine Ms. Brown. The track also gives shape to the title of the album. It is a very solid song that will hold its own on any radio station and/or concert. “Adult Cinema” is a huge display for the drums and guitars. My attention went straight to it right off the bat. The vocals are almost all screams so if you like that you will love the track, if you are a fan of fast music (guitars and drums) you will love this track. “What You Can Do To Me” is another stellar song on album. It is upbeat with both the vocals and music. It is more of a hard rock masterpiece rather than the normal heavy metal sound the rest of the album. It reminds me of a “Bring me to Life” from Evanescence. “Seneca Tragedy” spins off 8th out of the 10 tracks. It showcases the vocals of Alexis once again with another hard rock feel. It’s a great track that gives the band anther way to take their music as it proves that they can do the heavy metal as well as a hard rock presents to fans and the air waves. The album concludes with the track “Yesterday’s Gone.” It begins with an acoustic guitar and fades in Ms. Brown’s voice. It’s a simple yet elegant track that true fans will enjoy and embrace. It will be a great display of vocals at a live show and I’m sure of that. Overall this is a very good release. It has three types of music: heavy, hard, and a simple yet elegant soft passionate sound. I would recommend all three types of fans to get this album. It has a strong female vocalist, hard pounding drums and amazing guitar work. Although I’m not a big fan for the screaming in most places during the album it’s not bad. There are a few places that I don’t think it fits, but overall it’s a killer album.
