The newest release from the Southern California band, Smile Empty Soul, has hit the shelves.
Backed by one of the fastest independent record companies, Bieler Bros. Records, Smile Empty Soul shows that they don’t
care what people say they are going to play for what they believe. The lyrics by Sean Danielsen talks about frustrations that
everyone has had to endure during their lives. The album has a rough, raw sound
to it and gives the impression that the band is pissed off and ready to explode. They
are ready to explode over their past experiences with record companies. After
being dropped by the last one because of protest mail over what would have been their first single off of that album, “Holes,”
they are ready to explore and be themselves. “Holes” and the rest of the album stirred up problems with the content
of the songs and gave them their freedom back. “Vultures” the name of the new album is the last song of the album
and has a special treat at the end….the very end. This album does have its soft, slow spots but everyone can relate
to it in one way or another. Musically it just has that hard to ignore beat.
Danielsen’s voice and the music coincide and connect perfectly. The guitar play stood up a lot during the third song
of the album “Loser.” It has that sound that you have to hear over and over again, it’s great! This is a
solid sophomore effort and I’m looking forward to seeing them on the road in support of this album. The album consists
of 12 songs that total a time of 62:28, with a little bit of down time.
