Skillet, after almost a year after its original release, releases a Deluxe Edition for Comatose. The band, which is known for there ever changing musical nature, creates another mind-blowing installment. Comatose seems to have a common theme, loneliness. The lyrics like always are among the best. They always have a way of telling a story and getting listeners through their tough times. The deluxe edition also has an extra 6 tracks and a bonus DVD that has three music videos and behind the scenes content. The album begins with a had nose rock tune “Rebirthing.” That is backed up right after it’s done with something similar in style, “The Last Night.” Both display the harder sound and great lyrical meaning. “Yours to Hold,” seems to be letter from one person to another. It will grab a hold of you and make you listen to it. The title track “Comatose,” is another harder song that has great meaning and big potential to go places. The seventh track on the album “those Nights,” deal with friends trusting and leaning on each other. The song is more popish than the rest of the songs and may take a few listens before it sinks in and sticks in your head. “Falling Inside the Black,” deals with people that don’t want to be alone, but can’t get out of that rut of being there. They just want out and they need help to do so. “Whispers In the Dark,” is a fast track with great guitars throughout. “Live Free or Let Me Die,” the first new track on the deluxe edition, is a great edition to the album. it goes along with both the style and the messages that were spread out through the original album. Track 13 through the end are all acoustic versions of tracks that appear earlier in the album. Each gives the song something else that normally wouldn’t be there. The new version lets you focus on the words more and more intimate with them. The bonus DVD includes three videos that are all well produced and shot. Those too give the songs an extra hand if you will. They show the bands message even more than just words. It also included some behind the scenes stuff which is always fun to watch. Overall this is a great album to start with and with the extra songs it makes it better. The DVD also adds value to the album and the bands work. Not all that I have review have done so, but this one does. For Skillet fans that did go and get the original copy of this album, needs to go get this one. Is a solid album from start to end and it seems like the band isn’t going to slow down anytime soon.
