Lucky number seven? Sevendust releases
their newest adventure with Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow. A band that has been
along as long as Sevendust has and doesn’t have an enormously huge hit that nearly everyone thinks about once the band
name is even whispered, may just end with this album. Sevendust, known for changing it up at every turn, stays true to who
they are at the hard rock, nu-metal, melody driven monsters that they are. The
album begins with a blistering “Inside.” With an intro that gets the blood flowing and excellent tunes that follows,
the track warms listeners up for a great ride. “Enough” which also has a sweet intro explodes with an amazing
riff and great vocals. Another awesome addition to the track are the backing vocals contributed by the better of the two Roses
in the business. The third track, which features Mark Tremonti of Alter Bridge,
is a unique one. One part of the title “Hope” begins with a piano that suddenly stops as the vocals and drums
start. A strong track with screams woven in between outstanding vocals and a blast of riff-age about the three and a half
minute mark of the track. I stopped and replayed that part three times before I finished the track, it was just jaw dropping.
Scapegoat is a solid track laid in the middle portion of the album as “Fear” will be a concert favorite if it
makes the cut for the play list. “The Past” which features the second of three guest, Is a slower move vocal driven
track and is a good change of pace for the album. “Prodigal Son” is another heart racing track and “Lifeless”
places great drum work while adding riffs and screams. The second part of the title “Sorrow” features Miles Kennedy
of Alter Bridge.
The track is another softer track that displays passion and emotion. “Contradiction” and “Walk Away”
end the album as it should…A mind blowing, ear busting Sevendust explosion that we all can enjoy on the album and in
person. Overall this is another killer album. Though it’s been roughly a year since Alpha, the bands sixth album, the professionalism and attention to detail is still as large as ever. All Sevendust
fans should plays their hands on the wallet, open it up and pull out the dead presidents for this album. Even if you aren’t
a fan once taste of Chapter VII will have you wanting more of them.
