With nineteen types of releases what more can a band do to surprise its fans? Local H hits the streets with full length album 6 (7 if you count the live album) entitled Twelve Angry Months. The album has guess what 12 tracks, each have a title, but they also go by the months of a calendar year. Track one for example is titled “The One With ‘Kid,’” but it also is for the month of January. It has been said that the concept to the album is that it is about the different emotions felt for the 12 months after the end of a romantic relationship. As I stated before “The One With ‘Kid’” is track one. It begins with more of an acoustic bluesy feel to it until it unleashes the anger about minute 2 with a blistering guitar and drum beat. It quickly speeds up and adds some backing vocals to it. next comes a track that is catchy right from the get-go. “Michelle (again)” has a simple beat that is very addicting. I can’t put my finger on it, but I found myself repeating this track a few times. “BMW Man” is another catchy tune that has a pretty good mix of vocals and backing vocals with a nice riff that bullies is way forward and then fades off. “White Belt Boys” starts quarter 2 of the track. With a line like “Yeah, I hope you have a lonely life” that is sang in a sarcastic sounding way, it’s hard not to like that track. The music is a little strange for much of the track, but does pick up middle of the way through. “Taxi-cabs” closes out the first part of the year with a weird track that is focus on getting revenge more than forgiving the unnamed break-up artist. The first single off the track “24 Hour Break-up Session” spins of lucky number 7. It begins with the sound of a bar in the background with chicks chatting and glasses clanging. The music fades in with the voice of Lucas to follow. It’s another catchy tune and on of the best on the album. It does repeat a bit in spots though. “Simple Pleas” ends the third quarter as we head into fall. The song is a simple sounding track talking about the fact that everyone seems to notice “You” and he’s pleading to “her” not to lie about things. “Machine Shed Wrestling” does my birthday month justice. Laced with a heavy beat, cussing and innuendos it’s one of the best on the album. “Blur” is a grungy mess, that says “I took you home on a dare.” It’s a fun track with an upbeat tempo and amazing lines like “I only took you home on a dare.” The album ends on an okay note with “Hand to Mouth.” It’s a slower track that Floyd like. It is also the longest song on the album clocking in at 8+. Overall this is an okay album. It has its high points and its lows. Of the 12 tracks 8 or 9 can stand on their own. Another 2 or 3 has a chance too, but would be difficult and the rest you can just skip. They stay true to the sound of the album and that is changing by month. The songwriting is incredible some of the best and you have to sit and listen closely to the lyrics. They are well formatted and lead the rest of the sounds in the right path. A must listen! Check out their website and myspace page to do so.
