Like A Storm

Covilli Center

Youngstown, Oh

February 2nd, 2010

It’s hard to know how you are going to like or dislike something when you haven’t been around it very much, just caught a whiff of it as you walk past. This is kind of how I felt when I travelled up to Youngstown to meet Like A Storm and watch them play a live set. We did a quick interview before they went on stage and they are really down to earth. Matt and Kent are very easy to talk to as is Thomas. We didn’t get a chance to talk to Chris before the show. When they showed up on stage they quickly got you curiosity raise with a very odd looking instrument. The instrument is called a Didgeridoo and is like a long tube that wrapping paper would have been on. It is the same way the album opens up with. They then started to jam with multiple vocals coming in and out throughout the tracks. They talked and played straight to the crowd which is every fans dream. They played multiple tracks from the debut album which is only available at the show currently, but should be in stores very soon. The lead single “Chemical Infatuation” was the center of attention as the guitars soared and drums pounded. Each and every track was played to its full potential and the young fans yelling the lyrics right along with the guys. The stage presents was very advanced for such a young band moving all over the stage and using each others microphones. Like A Storm played an array of tracks from the album ranging from the fast and furious and the slower track with heart, soul, and passion. The only downfall for me was the fact they played more than one cover tracks. Yes the tracks were famous and they were played well. They were also favorites of the band members, but with playing more than one it seemed like they didn’t have enough of there own track or didn’t have confidence in their other tracks. Give them more time and those other covers with fade away. If you get a chance to see these guys now I would go and do it. They are phenomenal and I expect great thing from them. If you didn’t catch them on the Creed tour last summer or the tour they are on now with Shinedown you might get to see them this summer on multiple festivals including Rock on the Range 2010 which was just announced.

Rating: 9/10

Best Part: Amazing sound, rotating vocal leads

Worst: multiple cover songs
