Born in Elva, Estonia, a tiny, then-Soviet occupied town of 5,000 people Kerli dreamed of getting out and doing something great with her passion and gift. The debut album from her, that drops this summer 2008, is her living out her dream. Love is Dead, which will be released by Island Records, features many sounds during the 12 track adventure. It begins with the title track “Love Is Dead.” The song, of course, features Kerli with her amazing vocals that you will become accustom to throughout the album. It also has a great set of drum working and a nice flowing sound to the song. “Walking On Air” begins with very low vocals that are hard to hear for the clicking noise, but the vocals get progressively louder, but not that loud that it’s over down. It’s really a strange track. Up next is a track titled “The Creationlist.” This track reminds me of the movie Sweeny Todd in the beginning of the track. It has that old play sound to it, which is surprisingly pretty catchy. “I Want Nothing” gets to the rockiness of the album. It’s a bit more upbeat and you can hear guitar presents on the track. “Up Up Up” has a huge reggae feel to it as “Bulletproof” displays her incredible voice, which will leave your speechless. “Beautiful Day” begins the second half of the album with a suburb beat, vocals and backing vocals. “Hurt Me” offers up another cool beat as “Butterfly Cry” is a slower track lead by drums and more vocals. “Strange Boy” has a strange vibe to it. The vocals seem to have some added effects to them. The track also repeats bit too mush at the end. “Fragile” concludes the debut album. It’s a soft passionate track full of emotion. Overall this is an okay debut album. There are a few standout tracks, but other then the beats most of the tracks sounds the save. The vocals are outstanding, but are drug out by Kerli most of the time in the same way. I little more variety will help improve the songwriting and the feel of the songs. She has such an amazing story and she needs to try and capture that a bit more instead of writing about random things. I see some great things for her future, but a little bit work will need to happen before then.
