After there years of waiting Jimmy Eat World released their 6th full length album. Chase the Light features 11 tracks of the pop/alternative rock. The emo pioneers got there big break with Capital releasing their first two albums. Next came the Dreamworks era with their third album and then Interscope bought out Dreamworks. Albums 4, 5 and now 6 have all come on Interscope Records. Chase the Light was released in October of 2007. The first single “Big Casino” begins the album with high energy, upbeat track. It is very catchy and easy to get into. It’s a very nice choice for single number one. Next to the plate it “Let it Happen.” It too is a catchy track that is easy to get into. They do repeat lyrics and the “oooooo” in the track is now necessary as much as they use it. “Always Be” and “Carry On” are both kind of weird tracks. They both give off different vibes but didn’t do it for me and are easily forgotten. “Electable” gets you back into the groove, as it is another catchy tune. It again repeats the “ooooo” way to much. Eliminating some or shortening the use of them would help the song out a lot. “Gotta Be Somebody’s Blues” is a slower track that will intrigue you. It makes you listen very diligently and in doing so gets you to listen to the entire track. “Feeling Lucky” is another upbeat track. When listening the lyrics seem to be very odd. The title track spins off the album at number 9 of 11. It’s a slower track with what seem to be passionate lyrics. “Firefight” has clear vocals and a distinct drum beat. The album concludes with “Dizzy.” The best set of lyrics on the album, clear vocals and decent music. Overall this is an okay album, nothing special but not horrible either. It lacks that special aspect. The lyrics seem to be all over the place and not have any depth. I have heard far worse album than this these one. Getting back to basics, infusing the songs with more passion and more blistering sounds will elevate them back to the day status they should be at.
