Steal the Spotlight - Who is this and what is your part in the band?

Soulicit - My name is Darick and I sing lead vocals and play rhythm guitar for Soulicit.

STS - Let’s get to know you some…Where are you from?

Darick - I am from Haysville, KS.

STS - Who were some of your favorite bands growing up?

Darick - I loved Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC, Hank Williams JR., Aerosmith, Tupac & Snoop Dogg to name a few.

STS - How has your childhood impacted your music career?

Darick - It was the push that got me into music. I was raised in a home where the radio never stopped blasting anything from AC/DC to Hank Jr. I loved it and knew that’s exactly what I wanted to do.

STS - Okay, now let’s go to the band…how did you guys get together?

Darick - We got together back in 2002 and have been rocking since. Me and Dan were childhood buddies who shared the love and passion for music so creating it together as friends was a natural fit for us. We brought on his brother Andrew on bass and then later added Trent to the lineup and been going strong ever since.

STS - How did the band name come about?

Darick - We chose the name Soulicit and particularly the spelling because through playing live shows, writing songs, and recording albums we feel like we are out there soliciting our souls to the listener and crowds. We chose it back in 2002 and it has stuck since.

STS - What kind of influences to you draw from when the band writes?

Darick - We draw from real life. The songs we write are about things that have happened to us or someone close. None of it is stamped or manufactured so every tune is special to us in a since that it is very real.

STS - Is there one set writer of the band or is it more of a group effort?

Darick - It usually happens when I have an idea for a chorus or melody in mind. I will take it to the guys and from that point they will all put their own spin on it and we finish the creating process together as a band. Works great that way.

STS - With the new album Parking Lot Rockstar now out what should we expect from Soulicit this coming year?

Darick - A whole lot of touring! Our goal is to hit the streets and promote this album in a very grass roots way. In our first month of touring we put 9,000 miles on the van and haven’t slowed down yet!

STS - Of the bands you have shared the stage with which one has had the most influence on you guys both in the studio and on the road?

Darick - Really they all have in one way or another. Whether it be the fact they have been playing music for years and posses that longevity in the music industry that we are chasing or writing smash hit songs on the radio. We can draw from all the bands we share the stage with and learn lessons from each.

STS - I watch the new video for “Hell Yeah.” It seemed like you guys had a blast shooting it. Was it and where did the news guy come from?

Darick - We had an absolute blast! We try not to take ourselves too serious and this video was a great chance to display that. We mixed humor and lightness with bad ass rock n roll. To us, a perfect combo!

STS - If you had to pick one track from the album as your favorite, which one would it be?

Darick - I don't know that I can pick just one because all the songs on the record are about real things that I have been a part of and hold a special place to me. It's almost like asking someone to pick their favorite child. I love them all for different reasons.

STS - Do you guys have the next single picked out yet, or do you have a couple in mind?

Darick - The next 2 to roll out will be “Parking Lot Rockstar” and “Complicated.” Not exactly sure in what order but we are excited to get them out to radio and see what they can do!

STS - Is there anything else that you would like to tell the masses out there?

Darick - Thanks to all the fans out there who come out and rock with us. Without you all we are nothing. We look forward to seeing and meeting fans all over this great country this year! Keep supporting rock n roll!
