After much success with his pervious band, at least on one album, Gavin Rossdale has released his debut solo album. The husband to pop star Gwen Stefani, Gavin hit platinum with Bush and their album Sixteen Stones. With tracks coming off that album like: “Everything’s Zen,” “Little Things,” “Machinehead,” “The Chemicals Between Us” and the always popular “Glycerine,” Gavin and his Bush-mates here flying high. After Sixteen Stones however, Bush couldn’t keep the streak alive and finally broke up in 2002. Gavin though never let his fire quit as he put out a successful track “Adrenaline” for the Vin Diesel movie “Xx.” Now after becoming a dad and playing small movie roles Gavin is back with the 2008 solo-style. That album, Wanderlust, begins with the track “Can’t Stop the World.” It’s a simple track that says “I’ve been too long,” and is more heart-warming then past stuff. The vocals are easy to follow and to get into. “Frontline,” the second track, is written and sang from the heart. A passionate track in which Gavin is reaching out and saying “The Devil’s got me doing time, I miss my wife and family” and “Everywhere I see your face, Don’t wait up baby.” “The Skin I’m In” is a track laid with keys, backing vocals, and repeating lyrics. “Drive” is a great track. It offers amazing lyrics and a great beat. It’s one of the best on the album. “Future World” offers up a beat lead by drums and a guitar that comes in and leaves. It has a great message interwoven in the beat that is hard to pass up. “Love Remains the Same” is a great tune to lead Gavin’s solo album into the airwaves. This first single is laid with passionate vocals and a great musical parade behind. “This is Happiness” is a bit more of a rock tune, with more of a raging guitar and more riffs involved. There are a bit of strange vocals during it, but I don’t care. “Another Night In the Hills” is an upbeat track with high flying guitars, a super cool drum beat and cool sounding keys. The album ends with the track “Beauty and the Beast.” It starts with a strange set of sounds and then adds in drums, key and guitars. Next Gavin comes in with his vocals. A sound with a nice sound and great vocals a way to end and album and Gavin has that in this track. One of the best on the album is has the total package in addition to a great message to it. This one could find its way into a movie. Lastly there is a bonus track that last about one minute. Overall the album goes through its ups and downs. It starts off great with track 1 and ends with a great track. That track alone with let Gavin’s solo career take off. I’d like to see more of an upbeat tempo from him in his next installment, maybe not all the songs, but a few more than this time.
