Fireflight’s second major career adventure hit stores on March 4th of 2008. The follow-up to The Healing of Harms, Unbreakable shows that growth that most debuts
leave room for. The sophomore effort is laid with many hooks, messages, powerful vocals and killer riffs just like the debut,
but to a different level, a higher more mature level. The album brings with the powerful title track and first single “Unbreakable.”
The track features amazing vocals by Dawn, as does the entire album, a great message and phenomenal music, but I can’t
get past Dawn’s voice! Track 2, “You Gave Me A Promise” is a great one with a vocal driven journey. “Brand
New Day” begins with a rather depressing feel, but quick jumps to the other side with a bright outlook of changing things.
It is a rather catchy track that will surely be a huge hit if not a #1 if it finds itself a single. “The Hunger”
has a harder feeling to it while “Stand Up” offers up a message that brokenhearted people are not alone. “Forever”
is a slower track at least until the chorus arrives. It also includes very nice male backing vocals. “The Love We Had
Before” is an edgier track that actually begins with male vocals instead of Dawn. It is a more upbeat track then some
of the others on the album. “So Help Me God” features an odd beat to it. It is a rougher sounding beat for the
most part, but does go along with the vocals perfectly. “Wrapped In Your Arms” is a soft track that features a
spectacular vocal display. It is just simply breathtaking and will leave you wanting more….so just start the album over.
Overall this is a wonderful sophomore effort. A lot of bands it a slump with the second album, but not Fireflight. The emotion
and passion is still there and as bright as ever. The messages they deliver are just as strong as before and confidence is
evident throughout the album. This is a must have for all fans. Pop/rock, chick, Christian rock and even indie fan should
enjoy this album. It’s an album for all. Unbreakable does have its draw
backs, but you won’t count very high when you try to count them.
