British rockers Elbow, which released
their newest album on the 22nd of April in the U.S., may have jumped into the next
tier of music. After being praised by many fellow artists but not so much by the fans, the band storms back with The Seldom Seen Kid. The album begins with the track “Starlings,” which shoots a blast of music that
settles down into a beautifully written piece of lyrics. “The Bones of
You” features Guy’s vocals most of all, with a bit of backing vocals and simple elegant music. The albums first
single, “Grounds for Divorce” has been described as possibility the rockiest song to date for them. You must listen
to this as it refers to the title of the album. The next track, “An Audience With the Pope,” is laid with piano
and simple yet pleasant drums. “The Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver” adds another aspect to the band off this
album. It features more driving drums as they seem to be a main point in the song and the other instruments are played in
the back. It is a rather long song though and does take the listener on a curvy ride. “One Day Like This” is one
of the better tracks off the album though it is a very long song finishing with a time of 6+. It’s a softer track with
what appears to the ears to be an Orchestra
playing with them. The album ends with “Friend of Ours.” The song is full of emotion with the lyrics grabbing
the listener and pulling them in. Overall this is an okay album. It’s not my cup of tea, but it’s still a solid
album. The attention to detail for the lyrics are remarkable. It does wonders for a band when they can write from the heart.
