After much wait the debut album from Egypt Central has finally landed in stores. The band has gone through some tough times the past few years leading up to this point in time, including but not limited to: rehabs, label drops, foster care and homelessness. Since the signing of their newest label they have been featured on Ozzfest and Family Values. The album begins with a track named “Different.” This is a unique song and a refreshing beginning to an album. Although the song is hard it’s not a heavy screaming hard, which I have grown to see many bands do in the beginning only to fall off at the end, it is a more modern smoother sound. It features nice guitar work and nice vocals. It’s easy to understand and follow, but does repeat a bit much for me. The first single of this album “You Make Me Sick,” is a great follow-up track to “Different.” It also is a smooth track to me, yet with a little spiciness to it. The third track “Over and Under,” is a very catchy tune that will stick with every listener. The chorus is so catchy I couldn’t get it out of my head for days after the first time through. It is also already featured in a movie (i.e. “The Condemned”) and is one of the best tracks on the album. The forth track “Taking You Down” is a decent track with some odd vocals throughout the song that may or may not intrigue listeners. It also has a cool musical section around minute 2. “The Way” has a darker feel to some of the vocals and is more punk-ish than a lot of the others. “Walls of Innocence,” has a voice over during some of the tune shadowed by more great guitar work. This track seems to be more about the lyrics than anything else. It has a great meaning to it. “Locked and Caged,” is a sprint to the finish. Its one of the fastest tracks on the album and has great music installed throughout. The album finishes with an acoustic “Home.” The song shows a different side of the band. It really shows that they can change pace. The track really could hit home for a lot of people. Overall it is a decent debut. I don’t see it taking off like say Hinder, but its not going to be overplayed like them either. There are a lot of great songs on the album that will get a lot of air play on both FM and Satellite radio. They already should they can be on big tours and in the movies. Give them time to grow as a band a bit more and develop. I would like to see them a bit harder and the on this album sometimes the vocals seemed a bit distant as well.
